The mobile phone will soon need to fly

The mobile phone will become an indispensable tool when travelling by air. According to the airlines, 90% of passengers do not separate their mobile terminal to aircraft. Based on this observation, air transport companies rely increasingly on the phone to achieve economies of scale, getting rid of paper, costly in money and time.

According to the company Sita, which specializes in computer equipment in the aviation sector, the phone will, within the next 5 years, the boarding pass, luggage labels, and the invoice stating the payment of electronic ticket.

For their part, airlines welcomed the use of mobile phones for passengers. “These mobile services will be available to all travellers worldwide within the next 5 years,” said Francesco Violante. “The dates are set: by the end of 2010, 67% of airlines will offer the registration of passenger (check-in) by mobile phone, as well as alerting services on mobile, 82%”.
