According to a survey by the European Commission to 27,000 households in the EU, a European household in four has dropped a fixed telephone line and mobile content to take his calls.

“In many countries, there is a very attractive mobile,” said Martin Selmayr, spokesman for the Commission on issues of telecoms. “It is easier and more efficient access to a mobile phone service at a fixed number,” he added.

Regarding the breakdown by country, the fixed telephone remains the only mode of appeal for 21% of Bulgarian households, 20% of Germans and 18% of french.

For their part, Czech households are 64% to have waived the fixed telephone, the highest rate of the EU, followed by Finland (61%). Overall, the abandonment of fixed is more common in the new member states, 39% against 20% on average in the first 15 EU countries.
