Despite the slowdown in the US economy and the record price of a barrel of oil, mobile phone manufacturers Samsung, LG and Sony Ericsson forecast growth of global sales of mobile terminals this year.
As such, the South Korean LG Electronics announced Tuesday that it expected an increase of 20% of its sales in the second quarter, compared with the previous quarter, while the second global manufacturer, Samsung Electronics, has maintained its sales targets for 2008. “There are some obstacles in the global economy, as oil prices, but our sales have remained constant and we expect that our second quarter sales increased by 20% over the first quarter,” said Jae Reuters Bae, president of the Mobile Communications division for the south-east Asian LG.
For its part, Sony Ericsson, the world number five, has also issued an optimistic note, referring to a return to normality of its stocks after the beginning of the year rather slow. The Japanese-Swedish manufacturer maintains its forecast of a growth of 10% of the global market for handsets this year.
