WiMAX Forum has certified the first products Mobile WiMAX operating in the 2.5 GHz band.
This is good news for the future American WiMAX network developed by the joint venture Clearwire and supported by various actors as the operator Sprint Nextel, Intel and Google, but it comes very late in the plan of conquest of this technology.
The WiMAX Forum, sponsor and supervise the tests interoperability of WiMAX products, has announced that the first ten Mobile WiMAX equipment operating in the 2.5 GHz band had received their certification.
After months of verification of compliance with standards, four base stations and six terminals from eight manufacturers (Airspan, Alvarion, Beceem, Intel, Motorola, Samsung, Sequans and ZyXEL) have successfully passed the tests and techniques are good for marketing.
The step is important for all operators wishing to deploy a network WiMAX 802.16e they will finally have terminal facilities. This first step will involve primarily the USA and its future network XOHM, where the 2.5 GHz band is used.
A strong signal for take-off of Mobile WiMAX
For countries using the 3.5 GHz band, as is Europe, certification of products Mobile WiMAX in this band are promised before the end of 2008. The objective of the WiMAX Forum is to certify a hundred products for Mobile WiMAX end of 2008 and had one thousand in 2011. It will also prepare for certification of equipment operating in the 2.3 GHz band.
Anyway, this announcement will help to provide terminals for the first Mobile WiMAX networks launched, as the network Aerea de Worldmax, the Netherlands, which currently does that nomadic mode.
Similarly, the network XOHM American, after several delays, is expected to start its commercial phase from September 2008. However that manufacturers ensure the availability of terminals certified, which is still uncertain.
