New advanced for the establishment of a WiMAX network to the USA: Sprint has just validate the network infrastructure provided by Samsung for its project XOHM.

Despite a difficult economic context, both world with the global crisis and chronic loss with a steady flow of subscribers, the U.S. operator Sprint is still thin on the horizon its mobile network next-generation called Xohm and using WiMAX.

After the completion of a massive funding and the reformation of a joint venture with Clearwire, a local launch on regions of Washington and Baltimore and the support of several important players (Intel, Google …) is a new stage that has been reached with the validation of the WiMAX network infrastructure provided by Samsung.

Xohm ready for takeoff
The equipment has successfully passed all tests imposed by the technical operator, both in the laboratory and on the ground since 2007 to check the performance but also to ensure the interoperability of equipment from different manufacturers.

Samsung will provide a portion of these mobile devices, in the form of Express Cards and “UMPC compatible WiMAX (with the Samsung Q1 Ultra Premium), already deployed for the pre-launch. The start of commercial activities will take a little later in the year.

This is good news for WiMAX in general, at a time of doubts and the pressure exerted by promoting competition with other mobile network technologies. Sprint made a bold choice by engaging in this direction, while most U.S. carriers will turn to LTE (Long Term Evolution).
