The effects of the rise of competition are not yet visible on the financial results for the first quarter of 2008 Symbian.
Symbian, publisher of mobile operating system of the same name and the leading market for smartphones, continues to progress according to its financial results for the first quarter of 2008. If competition is organised, it is only for many declarations of intent in the long term.
In the meantime, it has passed 18.5 million Symbian terminals during the first quarter of 2008, an increase of 16.5% over the same period in 2007, thanks to the 235 models available on the market since its inception Symbian.
It was also during this quarter that Symbian has just topped 200 million terminals since the beginning of its activity. It took almost 7 years to sell the first 100 million in November 2006, and thus less than 2 years to sell the same.
Few signs of slowdown
Proof of this dynamic, the five largest manufacturers of mobile phones have all introduced new models during the first quarter of 2008, notably at the salon Mobile World Congress 2008 in Barcelona.
13 Symbian terminals were launched during the first three months of the year on segments of mid-range and smartphones, most based on the latest version of the operating system: Symbian OS v9.3.
Finally, it should be noted that 9,282 third-party applications are now identified, an increase of 24% compared to last year at the same time. The results of the beginning of the year 2008 is therefore quite good, but the quarters ahead may register more difficult.
